Resumen La argumentación es una forma de discurso en la que un hablante defiende una postura en una discusión. El presente trabajo se enfoca en la complejidad argumentativa y los recursos evaluativos y evidenciales que caracterizan las disputas de niños de diverso nivel socioeconómico. Se analizaron 94 disputas entre niños de 4 años y otros niños (5 a 10 años) en situaciones de juego espontáneo registradas en hogares de sectores socioeconómicos medio y bajo. El análisis identificó diferencias marginales en la (...) complejidad argumentativa entre los grupos. Por su parte se hallaron diferencias significativas en recursos de evaluativos de emocionalidad y en los evidenciales deónticos y exclamativos a favor de los sectores de nivel socioeconómico bajo. Los sectores medios registraron un mayor empleo de expresiones de causalidad y conectores. Los resultados se discuten a la luz de los hallazgos de investigaciones previas. Abstract Argumentation is a type of discourse in which a speaker defends a claim in a discussion. The present work focuses on the argumentative complexity and the evaluative and evidential resources that characterize the disputes of children of different socioeconomic levels. We analyzed 94 disputes between 4-year-old children and other children (5 to 10 years old) in situations of spontaneous play registered in homes of middle and low socioeconomic status (SES). The analysis identified marginal differences in argumentative complexity between the groups. On the other hand, significant differences were found in evaluative expressions of emotion and in deontic and exclamatory evidential markers, more frequently used by the low SES group. The mid SES group tends to use a higher number of expressions of causality and connectors. The results are discussed with reference to the findings of previous research. (shrink)

Sustainability reporting has become a well-entrenched practice in the mining sector. Failure to adequately live up to societal expectations is now considered a significant threat to the viability of the industry. There is general agreement that broad endorsement of standards for nonfinancial disclosure supports mining companies to improve their image, while conflicts persist. Because sustainability reports “speak” on behalf of sustainably operating organizations and may create socio-political effects, we explore the symbolic nature of SR. We conceive of SR as a (...) performative practice to research how it interferes with the world that it seeks to represent. Our case study research suggests that conformity with global templates is not an end in itself but might create below-compliance effects if a common interest in mining is developed in local arenas that avoids clarification of impacts and maintains ambiguity over responsibility. El presente artículo se inscribe dentro de la tradición interdisciplinaria e intenta hacer un aporte en el campo de las relaciones entre psicoanálisis y fenomenología hermenéutica. Puntualmente, la contribución se centra en señalar la transformación que Winnicott realiza de la metapsicología freudiana. Para lograr este propósito, se asume como criterio de análisis de la obra de Winnicott las reflexiones fenomenológico-hermenéuticas de la lectura que P. Ricoeur hace de la metapsicología freudiana en _Freud: una interpretación de la cultura_.

Este trabajo se propone defender una interpretación moderada de los argumentos de Thomas Pogge sobre justicia y pobreza globales, elaborados en su libro La pobreza en el mundo y los derechos humanos. Para esto, se analizará minuciosamente la reconstrucción que los críticos hacen de los argumentos de Pogge. Con esto, se espera poner de manifiesto que dicha reconstrucción se aleja en muchos casos de una interpretación mínimamente caritativa y malinterpreta los argumentos originales de este autor. Así, en este trabajo, se (...) defenderán una tesis principal y una subtesis. 1. Tesis principal. El deber negativo de no “cooperar en el mantenimiento de instituciones sociales injustas sin hacer una protección que compense y esfuerzos de reforma para sus víctimas” (en adelante, el “deber de no contribuir con la injusticia”) es menos exigente de lo que los críticos de Pogge afirman. Para defender esta tesis, se mostrará la relación entre el deber negativo de no contribuir con la injusticia y las obligaciones positivas de 1) proteger a las víctimas de un orden institucional injusto y de 2) trabajar para reformar los rasgos injustos de ese orden. Asimismo, se tratará de establecer cuáles son las implicancias prácticas de estas dos obligaciones positivas. 2. Subtesis. La violación del deber de no contribuir con la injusticia no convierte a los agentes morales en “violadores” de derechos humanos, tal como los críticos de Pogge sostienen, sino en “contribuyentes”. Para defender esta subtesis, se examinarán las críticas que se le formulan al autor con respecto a la falta de cumplimento del deber de no contribuir con la injusticia y se explicitarán las consecuencias del incumplimiento de este deber y de las dos obligaciones positivas mencionadas. El objetivo general de este trabajo es ofrecer una interpretación consistente de los principales argumentos de Pogge sobre justicia y pobreza globales que esclarezca los puntos incomprendidos o malinterpretados por sus críticos más importantes. Así, este trabajo constituye una contribución valiosa al campo de estudio, ya que, 1) sienta sobre bases más firmes una de las teorías filosóficas contemporáneas más citadas y ampliamente debatidas sobre justicia global y 2) facilita un verdadero intercambio de ideas entre filósofos, filósofas y otros expertos en el tema, mediante un real entendimiento de los argumentos poggeanos. The history of ideas about addiction often comes down to a history of debates over the use and meaning of language. Nowhere is this more clear than in the interminable “Is addiction a ‘disease’?” debate. In Marc Lewis’ excellent Biology of Desire and in his paper that centers this issue, there is far more agreement between his work and mine than there is disagreement on the “disease” question. Here, however, I make a case for greater compatibility between the “disease” view (...) and learning models of addiction than Lewis does, because I think the nuance is worth exploring. Indeed, if addiction science and ethics paid more attention to nuance in general, the whole field would be far better off. (shrink)

This paper reports on the results of a survey of faculty members at California State University, Northridge in Los Angeles, California regarding their understanding of and familiarity with the concept of fake news. With very few studies published on the attitudes of teaching faculty at universities, this study is a unique approach to the issues facing educators, knowledge creators, and information specialists. The paper examines the origins of the term “fake news”, the factors contributing to its current prevalence, and proposes (...) a new definition. It also reports upon the attitudes that teaching faculty hold, and how they define fake news within their specific disciplines. Though nearly all surveyed faculty felt fake news was an important topic that impacted them professionally, the researchers also find that faculty across all disciplines and ranks, ages, and gender, hold widely differing conceptions of fake news. This lack of consensus may have future implications for students in particular and higher education in general and are worth exploring further. (shrink)

O propósito desta publicação é divulgar as atividades desenvolvidas no âmbito da linha de pesquisa Formação, Trabalho, Instituição, através da qual se articulam várias iniciativas de investigação que vêm sendo realizadas, em especial, junto ao Instituto de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas e Curso de Mestrado em Serviço Social da PUCRS e ainda com a equipe do Projeto Integrado "Urbanidade e Cidadania: processos de formação e instauração de saberes ", que reúne pesquisadores e bolsistas da PUCRS, UNISINOS e UFRGS, com apoio (...) financeiro do CNPq e da F APERGS. Ao oferecer ao público resultados de investigações em andamento, está se apostando na idéia de que a pesquisa e o próprio pesquisador constituem-se antes de tudo como processo e não como algo acabado. Em outras palavras, pretende-se de alguma maneira evidenciar que o conhecimento, o domínio e as competências indispensáveis para atingir descobertas significativas, através da pesquisa, supõem uma formação que, gradativamente, vá instrumentando o futuro profissional com as ferramentas exigidas para o desempenho de tal métier. É dentro desse espírito que neste número incluímos textos elaborados pelos diversos pesquisadores envolvidos, independente do status acadêmico de cada um. Materializa-se, portanto, a concepção de que tanto a pesquisa quanto o pesquisador são produtos de um processo que envolve um trabalho de cunho pedagógico bastante atento e moroso, já que o tipo de cumplicidade que se estabelece entre ambos está intimamente associado com o rigor do conhecimento científico resultante dessa interação. Eis, pois, a principal explicação para os diversos graus de aprimoramento dos textos aqui publicados. Seus autores possuem níveis de capacitação significativamente diferenciados, em relação ao métier de pesquisador: desde o bolsista de iniciação científica ou de aperfeiçoamento, o mestrando e o mestre, até o professor-pesquisador - que desenvolvem suas investigações a partir de certos referenciais propostos pela linha de pesquisa referida - além dos pesquisadores cujos artigos se relacionam com a temática em questão, mesmo que com outras orientações teórico-metodológicas. Tal diferenciação é também reforçada pela inclusão de autores franceses, reconhecidos internacionalmente, cujos textos foram traduzidos para esta publicação, por se constituírem suportes teórico-metodológicos1 importantes para as pesquisas desenvolvidas pelos vários subprojetos vinculados à linha de pesquisa. The current research explored the effect of anger on hypothesis confirmation—the propensity to seek information that confirms rather than disconfirms one's opinion. We argued that the moving against action tendency associated with anger leads angry individuals to seek out more disconfirming information than sad individuals, attenuating the confirmation bias. We tested this hypothesis in two studies of experimentally primed anger and sadness on the selective exposure to hypothesis confirming and disconfirming information. In Study 1, participants in the angry condition were (...) more likely to choose disconfirming information than those in the sad or neutral condition when given the opportunity to read more about a social debate, and reading the disconfirming information affected their subsequent attitude. Study 2 measured participants' opinions and information selection about the 2008 US Presidential Election and their desire to “move against” a person or object. Participants in the angry condition reported a greater tendency to oppose a person or object, which resulted in the attenuation of the confirmation bias. (shrink)

Drawing on feminist and sociocultural theories of emotion that focus on the social, political, and dynamic nature of emotions in history teachers’ pedagogical decision-making, this article presents findings from the analysis of interviews with two white teachers on the role of emotions in their teaching of history in comprehensive, urban high schools. While the teachers perceived that students’ emotional connection to historical content was a necessary step in learning history, each teacher negotiated different emotional rules in their classrooms, creating unique (...) learning experiences for their students. This study demonstrates the significance of emotions in history teaching, providing examples of the complexity of how teachers navigate dominant discourses about students and education and their own personal goals when it comes to teaching about the past. En el presente trabajo se desarrollarán algunos avances del grupo de investigación Feminización de la Extensión Crítica, el cual forma parte del Grupo de Trabajo Extensión crítica: teorías y prácticas en América Latina y el Caribe del Consejo Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales (CLACSO). Este grupo tiene como objetivo hacer visibles algunos invisibles que sostienen y reproducen la división social, técnica y sexual de la práctica extensionista, utilizando dos estrategias: 1- constituir la extensión universitaria en objeto de análisis y; 2- revisar (...) su corpus teórico desde las categorías propuestas por los feminismos academicistas y populares. Se presentarán algunos resultados preliminares obtenidos a partir de la lectura sintomal (leer un texto o un corpus teórico no solo por lo que dice sino también por lo que omite o silencia), lo que permite la elucidación crítica de los sesgos sexistas en el interior de las propias prácticas y construcciones teóricas para posibilitar reconceptualizaciones y aportes. Se incorpora además una nueva estrategia de abordaje: el análisis de la implicación subjetiva, para permitir el despliegue de lo opaco, para poder así actualizar la extensión crítica latinoamericana y caribeña y continuar recorriendo, con pasos renovados, los caminos de la extensión critica que ya fueran marcados por otrxs. El propósito de este trabajo es doble: por un lado, intentaremos exponer el vínculo entre sublimación y ciencia en Freud y la relación entre la desmundanización y el discurso teórico en Heidegger con el fin de establecer sus similitudes y diferencias. Y, por el otro, el trabajo propone una lectura crítica de la concepción heideggeriana de la ciencia a partir de la noción freudiana de sublimación. La idea es mostrar que Heidegger no lograría ver un significado positivo de los discursos (...) objetivantes en la constitución de la propiedad del Dasein, es decir, en la modalidad auténtica de la subjetividad. Asimismo, se afirma que la interpretación enunciativa de la segunda tópica de Freud posibilita una crítica a su epistemología naturalista.The purpose of this paper is double: at one side we tried to expose the link between sublimation and science in Freud and the relationship between unworlding and the theoretical discourse of Heidegger with the aim of establishing similarities and differences. And on the other side, the paperintends a critical reading of Heidegger’s conception of science by means of Freud’s conception of sublimatization. The idea is to show that Heidegger fails to see a positive meaning in the objectivizing discourses in the constitution of the property of Dasein, that is, in the authentic mode of subjectivity. In additionthe article maintains that the enunciative interpretation of Freud’s second topic makes possible an criticism of his naturalistic epistemology. (shrink)

Este trabajo parte de nuestra reflexión acerca de la tesis que Paul Ricoeur expone en su libro Freud. Una interpretación de la cultura, reflexión que se centra sólo en un aspecto del estatuto del psicoanálisis, a saber, en la caracterización que Ricoeur hace de la especificidad del mismo y su distinción radical de la fenomenología. A partir de allí, intentaremos mostrar que la recepción del psicoanálisis de Freud en Winnicott produjo un desplazamiento epistemológico cuando dejó de lado el concepto de (...) técnica y lo reemplazó por la noción de tratamiento. Por ello, a nuestro juicio, desde el interior del pensamiento de Winnicott se torna necesario pensar nuevamente las relaciones epistemológicas entre fenomenología y psicoanálisis. (shrink)

Creating a mobile software-based exploration (artwork?/app?) puts the artist-coder in a position to interact with the mediated image streams that connect people on the Internet. The mediated streams often contain portraits and self-portraits, selfies, of the participants. These selfies are visual status messages of the people participating in the data streams. They can be used by the poster to identify themselves in the data stream and represent a way the creator of the selfie wants to be seen by the social (...) circle in which the image is posted. These images could reveal recognizable characteristics of the subject. The characteristics could be recognizable by people and software along the mediated path that the image traverses. Algorithmic intervention on the image affects the human and software interpretation of the image. In the works #autoselfie and FIFO ribbon, images are modified on a pixel level, in a way that the user of the app/work cannot control completely. The modifications reveals the potential power of the software systems to modify the imagery that people use to identify themselves in mediated communication environments. Moreover, the changes applied are chosen by the artist coder to impede recognition by software systems downstream but make human recognition possible in some cases. The alterations make the software in the app visible on a pixel level. The works then let the user post the altered images on Twitter or Google+ social media streams. The framing of this work as artwork or mobile app creates a tension, which affects audience interpretation and user experience choices made by the artist. These ideas are explored in the 2013 work #autoselfie and the 2014 work FIFO ribbon that runs on Android devices. #autoselfie was used to remix images created by winners of the South African 2013 Sanlam National Portrait Award, to explore the intervention of algorithms on mediated portraits and self-portraits. ABSTRACT We have several objectives in this article. Firstly, we return to the category of semiosphere due to its dialectical and polysemic character, but we also introduce some reflections in order to analyze more complex cultural productions. In this same sense, the category of internal and external semiotic border allows us to present the cultural, intercultural, and transcultural translation problems that are articulated with the dynamic changes of every culture. Secondly, we examine the category of culture and articulate it with (...) the no-culture, with the anti-culture, which would lead to propose three types of semiosphere: cultural semiosphere, noncultural semiosphere, and anti-cultural semiosphere, which introduce controversial aspects that must be considered. Thirdly, we study Iuri Lotman’s latest approaches on the unpredictable in cultural processes, assuming assumptions of complexity and transdisciplinarity that are present in all his work. (shrink)

International Indigenous rights coalitions increasingly involve Indigenous and non-Indigenous civil society organizations with diverse backgrounds and interests. As these organizations more frequently interact and partner with one another, what issues are being emphasized in their advocacy efforts? This study utilizes content analysis of 60 Indigenous rights organizations’ websites, as well as interviews of several leaders and staff, to explore whether African Indigenous organizations emphasize different aspects of Indigenous rights in their messaging and advocacy than their other Indigenous and non-Indigenous coalition (...) partners, We find that African Indigenous CSOs discuss issues of unequal treatment more frequently, and issues of self-determination and assimilation less frequently, than their coalition partners. The messaging of Indigenous organizations outside of Africa contained similar themes as that of non-Indigenous CSOs. This raises questions regarding why these messages differ: do African Indigenous groups have distinct concerns and/or are there other reasons for the variance in messaging across international Indigenous rights coalitions. Esta es la versión escrita de una entrevista realizada a Eugenio Bulygin, profesor emérito de Filosofía del Derecho (UBA), con respecto a quien toda presentación podría resultar o bien imcompleta o bien superflua. -/- Nuestra intención al realizar esta entrevista fue indagar acerca de las respuestas que dieron a esos interrogantes las personas que, en ese momento, ocuparon posiciones de toma de decisión en la Facultad de Derecho de la UBA. La elección del entrevistado, Eugenio Bulygin, no podría haber sido (...) mejor. No solo por su lucidez y por haber ocupado un puesto de suma importancia en la transición democrática, el de Decano Normalizador, sino porque, además, ha estado siempre, antes y después de la transición, estrechamente vinculado a la Facultad, de modo que provee un testimonio invaluable de sus transformaciones a lo largo de la segunda mitad del S. Josef Sudek, the 'Poet of Prague', had a legendary career spanning almost six decades. His craftsmanship and technical virtuosity were unparalleled among his contemporaries. Faced with the legacy of cubism, surrealism and the Czech avantgarde, Sudek sought his own approach, characterized by a striking mastery of light.

This article reviews Alex Anievas and Kerem Nişancıoğlu’sHow the West Came to Rule: The Geopolitical Origins of Capitalism(2015). It argues that the book offers a stimulating and ambitious approach to solving the problems of Eurocentrism and the origins of capitalism in growing critical scholarship in historical sociology and International Relations. However, by focusing on the ‘problem of the international’ and proposing a ‘single unified theory’ based on uneven and combined development, the authors present a history of international relations that trades (...) off methodological openness and legal complexity for a structural and exclusive consequentialism driven by anti-Eurocentrism. By misrepresenting the concept of social-property relations in terms of the internal/external fallacy, and by confusing different types of ‘internalism’ required by early-modern jurisdictional struggles, the book problematically conflates histories of international law and capitalism. These methodological problems are contextualised by examples from the Spanish, French and British empires’ conceptions of sovereignty and jurisdiction and their significant legal actors and processes. El artículo analiza los aportes de la teoría sociológica de Norbert Elías y Pierre Bourdieu al campo de las ciencias sociales. Siguiendo a Corcuff, podemos ubicar las obras de estos dos autores dentro de las teorías constructivistas. Teorías que producen un desplazamiento mismo del objeto de la sociología: ni la sociedad ni los individuos, concebidos como entidades separadas, sino las relaciones entre individuos. Con ello, se abordan el rechazo a la teoría pura; el abordaje multidisciplinar y la vigilancia epistemológica en (...) la construcción del objeto de estudio; la superación de la oposición subjetivismo-objetivismo; la explicación social, histórica y relacional de los fenómenos sociales; la concepción agonista de lo social; y, por último, el eje temático que atraviesa las obras de dos autores con diferencias pero complementarios. Este número da revista Veritas apresenta um conjunto de trabalhos articulados à linha de pesquisa Formação, Trabalho, Instituição, 1 reunindo as principais descobertas de investigações em andamento que se têm interessado pela reconstituição do processo de formação do cidadão produzido através de inúmeros meios, estratégias e agentes sociais, em especial no decorrer do século XX. Formação, cidadão e cidadania constituem as principais categorias de análise dos textos expostos neste número, sendo a cidade o espaço privilegiado para a produção de agentes (...) sociais. O impresso é aqui priorizado por incidir de forma decisiva nas relações que dinamizam a produção social, desde o seu surgimento. Verifica-se, especialmente nas últimas décadas do século XIX, que o impresso exerce uma função pedagógica significativa por ser um importante meio de acesso a saberes indispensáveis não só à formação do habitante da cidade, mas também para a formação do habitante da Terra, já que mais recentemente a concepção de cidadão e, consequentemente, a de cidadania extrapolam ou independem de qualquer limite geográfico, em decorrência da complexificação do social. O presente número da VERITAS reúne a maioria das palestras proferidas por professores e pesquisadores da PUCRS e de outras universidades, junto aos Cursos de Extensão que foram realizados em 1994 e 1995, na PUCRS.*Um autor, uma abordagem: Pierre Bourdieu. *Um autor, uma abordagem: Jürgen Habermas. * Tempo: uma categoria, várias abordagens. Tais cursos foram organizados com o intuito de aprofundar alguns dos pressupostos epistemológicos que embasam as investigações que venho desenvolvendo, juntamente com uma equipe, as quais se articulam à (...) sublinha de pesquisa "formação, trabalho, instituição". Nessa perspectiva, o foco de interesse desses eventos centra-se no referencial teórico-metodológico de autores - Pierre Bourdieu e Jürgen Habermas - e na categoria de análise de caráter universal - o tempo – enquanto fundamentos indispensáveis ao ato de pesquisar. Essa publicação é mérito, em primeiro lugar, do diretor dessa revista que em vários momentos instigou-me a encontrar os meios para realizar esse empreendimento. Em segundo lugar, dos palestrantes que aceitaram produzir um texto sobre o assunto que haviam abordado há alguns meses atrás. Também, é mérito das pessoas que manifestaram interesse em obter o texto das palestras que integraram esses eventos, o que assegurou o ânimo para se concretizar esse trabalho. E, obviamente, é mérito da equipe de bolsistas* que atua junto aos subprojetos que estão em andamento. Por isso, aproveito a oportunidade para expressar a todos os meus sinceros agradecimentos. Este artigo constitui um esforço no sentido de articular teoria, método e dados, quando procura expor alguns resultados sobre as pesquisas desenvolvidas junto a escolas de ofício católicas de Porto Alegre/RS, que têm no referencial de Pierre Bourdieu um dos seus principais referenciais teóricos.

The diversity of designs and techniques used to build environments around the human perceptual system in order to immerse people in complex synthetic experiences has created a variety of approaches. Some of the experiences may immerse the person in structures that cannot be physically accessed otherwise because of scale or time. Others may bring together different phenomena that do not normally happen simultaneously. In this article I attempt to categorize the kinds of experiences that are being built around our bodies (...) and minds utilizing devices that extend our senses and cognitive structures, thus mediating the way we experience and think to better understand the world around us. Real-time computer graphics and complex sensory input challenge past assumptions of highly constrained metaphors based on static imagery. Access to research and gaming interfaces have popularized the understanding of tracking technologies that tailor interaction to ambulatory displacement and dexterous handling of objects, expanding the realm of metaphors from visual to physical phenomena. But behaviour and the mind have been studied far before there were real-time computer graphics or digitally created synthetic environments. Dynamic relationships between environment, body and thought are being (...) dissected today by neuro-scientific research, and, conversely, synthetic environments are being utilized to address psychological disorders. This article examines research on scientific and philosophical fields that advance the definition of representation, from an image-based realm as limited by previous popular media to an understanding of action and immersion, where attention is activated by change, and rooted in the body. From this perspective, the advent of embodied representation may not be as much of a change of medium, but the perceptual relation with the medium, the medium being a created Umwelt, where the virtual world builds the mind through the body. The synthetic experience can be understood as the natural experience extended through technological means. These means are usually designed to immerse a person or people into a representation of reality, being that reality is one of being immersed in a task, a state of mind or an imagined space, or a combination of them. To represent reality, technology is built around the human perceptual system that connects with the focus of its attention towards the outside world. In handling reality, the (...) human perceptual system also extends inwards, to patterns of reasoning where the structure of the body, that is, the perceptual system itself, models the organization of ideas and interaction. Therefore, a synthetic experience has unique potential to allow for interaction with structures of the mind. (shrink)

Partiendo del supuesto de que lo acontecido al interior de los Centros Clandestinos de Detención (CCD) configuró una experiencia límite cuyos efectos se sostienen aún en el presente, el objetivo de este artículo consiste en aproximarnos a los modos de emergencia y/o persistencia de la violencia vivida en el espacio subjetivo. A partir del análisis de entrevistas en profundidad a sobrevivientes de los CCD en la Argentina, abordaré las formas de irrupción/disrupción narrativas que se producen en la evocación presente de (...) la experiencia de la (propia) desaparición. Si estas formas de persistencia remiten, por un lado, a temporalidades propias del acecho y la ruptura, se solapan también en y con nuevas temporalidades que lejos de subsumir al sujeto en el presente continuo, acuciante y paralizante de la violencia vivida, tornan posible la vida en términos de la proyección a futuro y la afirmación del sujeto en el presente. Este artigo apresenta uma abordagem da cidade contemporânea do ponto de vista da contribuição das novas tecnologias digitais na constituição de laços sociais e na caracterização dos espaços urbanos. A análise de exemplos de interações cotidianas entre o meio digital e a cidade ilustra as considerações teóricas sobre novas formas de experiências do espaço social, mais precisamente a da ubiqüidade, na construção de novas experiências espaciais coletivas.
